Kristine Allen is a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher and has been practicing yoga for 25 years. Kristine brings a peaceful fun-loving energy to each yoga class, encouraging students to connect inside and feel. She uses her extensive knowledge of Breath in her yoga classes. Breath is the ultimate transformer. It is always with us and is our connection to spirit. In many languages the word for breath and the word for spirit are the same.

Kristine Allen received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona in 1985. This provided a beautiful foundation and comprehensive knowledge of the body for both her yoga practice and her massage practice. She brings this knowledge to class to compassionately support her students when moving into poses.

When Kristine was in her late teens she developed a severe heart condition that motivated her to delve deep into the mystery of how we heal. As she struggled with the debilitating symptoms and limitations imposed on her from this disease her compassion for others who suffer grew exponentially. Her journey began with a few heart palpations and fatigue and developed into debilitating arrhythmias and radical swings in heart beats per minute leading to gray outs and weakness. As her symptoms progressed she felt more and more isolated in part because medical science had not yet developed the diagnostic tools to adequately diagnose her. The stereotype behind an undiagnosed illness is in and of itself a shaming process. The assumption is that one is either crazy, looking for attention or with significant mental problems. When they did finally use appropriate diagnostic tools, she was hospitalized in intensive care for several days. The protocol to treat her disease was to use many drugs and restricting activities to control her episodes. With this followed depression, isolation and frustration. This was exacerbated by many of the drugs she had to take having side effects of depression. The medical prognosis, with restricted activities and not to have children, was daunting for her. This limited future inspired Kristine’s drive to find another way to heal, thus beginning her inward search.

Since this was before the internet, she would travel around the Los Angeles basin (where she was attending college) to both UCLA medical library and to the few metaphysical bookstores to gather information. During one visit to a metaphysical bookstore a book on yoga jumped out at her and she began exploring this ancient science.

When Kristine Allen moved to Bellingham in the early 90’s she started practicing Kripalu Yoga and Holotropic Breathwork. This combination of practices opened her profoundly and vast healing shifts unfolded. She worked with meditation, breathwork, yoga and naturopathic support to heal her body, mind, emotions and spirit. After many years of taking medication and limiting her activity she felt strong enough to begin weaning herself off the medications that dampened her spirit and limited her love of running and hiking. As she began to exercise again she had to learn to deeply listen to her body instead of using the mind to push herself. If she tried the old way of pushing through she would suffer for days with severe symptoms. In this way her body taught her how to go slow and in time build her stamina. She had to begin with 10 strides of running and then walking 100 strides until she could run a half mile then increase the distance. A dear friend who was also beginning to run suggested they train to do a half marathon. She saw this as an opportunity to acknowledge how her body had healed and decided to run a marathon. In 2003 Kristine Allen completed her first marathon. This achievement symbolized to her the healing of her body, mind and spirit. To this day she enjoys hiking, running swimming and yoga.

What is Transformational Breath?
Transformational Breath is a self empowering breathing modality that can transform one’s life. Transformational Breath uses a dynamic and powerful breathing pattern to open the breath and oxygenate the cells. By opening and clearing the restrictions in the respiratory system we are able to bring in more breath with each inhale. More breath in our system means more oxygen and prana or life force for our cells to function more efficiently, as well as more energy and vitality. The breathing pattern we use in Transformational Breath creates a high vibration energy field; this energy field helps integrate unconscious patterns, energy blocks and past trauma. As we expand the breath, integrate and free up the stuck energy in our bodies, we open to being in deeper connection with Spirit (whatever that is for you).

Kundalini Yoga

 Thursdays 9:30-11:00 am
Drop in $15, Class Card $60 for 5 classes, $100 for 10 classes (-can also be used in the Transformational Breath class.)

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. It is the fastest acting yoga known, as it quickly balances the different systems of the body and opens us to connect with ourselves. It physically works to bring us into balance and release tension and stress. Kundalini Yoga quiets the mind and calms the nervous system, energetically revitalizing our entire system. In Kundalini Yoga we incorporate yoga postures (Asana), breath (Pranayama), saying words with a peaceful vibration (Mantra), using hand positions to direct energy (Mudras) and meditation.

Inspire Studio Reviews

This historical one room yoga studio is a beautiful place for a class. Instructors range in style, class time, and difficulty but owner Ruby Koa does a beautiful job filling her space with love. Drop in for a sweat at the noon power hour on Tuesday or Thursday, start your weekend off right with a free meditation class Friday afternoon or ever try the new aerial yoga class offered with silks. Inspire is an incredible place to find community and spirit.
